Cottage Cove at Lake Oconee is a group of five lakefront vacation rental cottages around a shared pool and pavilion, at the end of Collis Marina Road on the Putnam County side of the lake near Eatonton. A longtime Lake Oconee builder family built the first four in 2022 and added a fifth in 2023, and they keep all five as rentals, booked by the night by families, couples and groups who want a lake house without owning one. And these things are really nice.

That makes Cottage Cove different from every other community on this site. The cottages are not sold one at a time, and none has ever come on the market. If you found this page looking for a place to stay, everything you need to book is below. If you found it because you would love to own on this point, I will show you the communities right next door where you can.

Each cottage has a boating name, and four of them share the same plan. The Anchor, Topside, Portside and Starboard are about 3,200 square feet each on two levels. The main level has the primary bedroom and a full kitchen. The lower terrace level has two queen bedrooms, a bunk room and a kitchenette, so two families can spread out without stepping on each other. All four have three and a half baths and porches on both levels with fireplaces and TVs, looking out at the lake.

The Anchor was the first one built. Portside and Starboard sit side by side right at the pool, which makes them the pair to book when two families are traveling together.

Captain’s Quarters came last, in 2023, and it is built for couples. It runs about 2,500 square feet on three levels with two king suites, each with its own bath and a wet bar, plus a powder room. It sleeps five.

The community dock has five slips, one for each cottage. Bring your own boat, or rent one and have it delivered to your slip. Guests fish, kayak and swim off the dock, though diving is not allowed. The marina next door has fuel and a ship store, so filling up before a day on the water is a short run.

The view from the dock is open water, and the sunsets get mentioned in review after review.

Booking a Stay at Cottage Cove at Lake Oconee

You can book any of the five cottages through the Cottage Cove website, which links to each cottage’s Airbnb and VRBO listings. The cottages hold near-perfect guest ratings on both, and reviews keep coming back to the same things: the sunsets, how clean the cottages are and how well they work for families.

A few things to know before you book. Parties and events are not allowed. Check-in is in the afternoon and checkout is at noon. Pet policies differ from cottage to cottage, so check the listing for the one you want. Summer weekends and holidays book first, and rates move with the season.

Each cottage holds its own Putnam County short-term rental license, renewed every year, with its occupancy limit set by the county.

How Cottage Cove at Lake Oconee Came to Be

The land under Cottage Cove at Lake Oconee tells the same story as much of this lake. The Collis family, whose name is on Collis Road and Collis Marina Road, held this lakefront point for decades. In the summer of 2007, as the boom was peaking, it sold for $925,000 and was resold the same day for $2 million. Then the recession hit. At the end of 2009 it sold for $354,000, and by 2016 it went for $195,000, about a tenth of what it brought nine years earlier.

In 2020 the builders who own it today bought it, with a plan on file with the county for 10 townhomes. They built something else: four lakefront cottages, a pool and a pavilion in 2022, and a fifth cottage in 2023, all kept as vacation rentals.

Can You Buy a Home at Cottage Cove at Lake Oconee?

Not at Cottage Cove itself. All five cottages belong to one owner and are run as rentals, and none of them has ever been listed for sale.

If a stay here has you wishing you could own on this point, you can. Enclave at Lake Oconee shares the point, and every one of its 18 lakefront townhomes comes with its own boat slip. The Waterfront on Lake Oconee is 72 gated lakefront condos across the marina cove. And if what you really want is a lake house that pays some of its own way as a rental, start with the rules. Putnam County licenses short-term rentals and caps how many it issues, and many neighborhoods have their own covenants against them.

For Cottage Cove guests, that will mean resort dining a few minutes up the road, and more traffic on Collis Marina Road while it is being built.
