If you own a boat you already know why this matters. Ethanol gas pulls moisture and goes off sitting through a winter, and it’s rough on marine engines — rougher on older ones. Non-ethanol high-test means you don’t have to think about it. Not every fuel dock on Lake Oconee carries it.

This is the part that surprises people. Most marinas on Lake Oconee take boats and that’s the end of it. Blue Springs will store your camper too, and they have full hook-up RV sites on top of that. Plenty of weekend owners out here have both a boat and a camper, and there aren’t many places that’ll handle the pair.

Ask around and you’ll hear the same thing about the people. Owners and staff go out of their way — pulling a boat, getting you fueled up, telling you where the fish are. The little country store carries bait, tackle, cold drinks and homemade ice cream, and on a summer afternoon it’s as much a place to stand around and talk as it is a place to buy something.
Two things worth knowing before you go. Some of the slips are narrow, so measure your boat before you commit to one. And parking fills up on a busy summer weekend. Neither one is unusual for a marina this size, but you’d rather hear it now than on a Saturday in July.
The Neighborhood: Blue Springs Drive and Blue Springs Court
Two short streets running down toward the water, and that’s the whole neighborhood. Small houses on wooded lots of about an acre, with a few manufactured homes mixed in among the site-built ones. No gate, no entrance monument, no property owners association on record. Nobody out here is putting on airs.

One of the More Affordable Pockets of Shoreline
This is one of the few places left on Lake Oconee where the entry price is not the main obstacle. The houses are small and older, several are manufactured, and the lots are wooded acres. That combination keeps the numbers down in a way that almost nothing else on this shore manages.
There is one very large waterfront property out here that trades in a completely different world from the rest of the street. Do not read that one as the neighborhood.
If your budget is modest and you want to be able to walk to fuel, a ramp and a mechanic, there are not many other addresses on this lake that will do it.
What Blue Springs Is Not
This trips people up, so let me be clear about it. Blue Springs Road is a long connector and it is not this neighborhood. It runs for miles and turns into Swords Road, and what sits along it — big acreage tracts, and a pocket of newer construction that trades well above anything on the two residential streets — has very little to do with Blue Springs Drive and Court.
The name is older than any of it. Blue Springs was one of the earliest communities in Morgan County, named for the natural springs here, and those springs were what made the J. B. Swords Distillery possible just up the road. The Morgan County bicentennial marker at Swords tells that story.
