Country Roads, Minutes From Lake Oconee

Alexander and Denham are true country roads: farms, horses, barns, hay bales and equipment sheds. It feels nothing like the neighborhoods strung along Highway 44, and it is only a few minutes from them.
One of my favorite sights out here is the neighbors from Alexander Lakes and Hunter’s Chase out speed-walking these roads in leggings, tank tops and weighted vests, right past the hay bales.
The Two Lakes in Alexander Lakes
The lakes in the name are two private ponds. Alexander Lakes is likely named as it is because Alexander Ponds doesn’t sound as appealing. But the water features actually work perfectly for the neighborhood and create a very pretty setting. A good number of the homes on the left as you drive in back up to the water.
The two ponds are owned differently. One sits on a common-area parcel owned by the Alexander Lakes property owners’ association. The other belongs to the homeowners around it, including some on Alexander Road outside the neighborhood, with property lines running to the middle so each owner holds a piece of the lake.
Listings for the lakefront lots describe good fishing, and several say the covenants permit private docks. There is no access to Lake Oconee itself from the neighborhood; the nearest launch is Fish Tale Marina.
The Homes in Alexander Lakes
The neighborhood was laid out in the early 2000s, and a handful of homes went up between 2004 and 2006. In 2009 the developer’s unsold lots passed to a bank, and the street sat until Rocky Branch Builders began buying them. Most of the homes on the street today went up between 2019 and 2023, built by Rocky Branch from a handful of floor plans.
They are mostly four-bedroom craftsman-style houses of about 2,100 to 2,900 square feet. Many are two-story with the primary suite on the main floor, and some are ranches. The homes and yards of Alexander Lakes are well kept, and it shows from the street.
The property owners’ association, which also owns one of the two lakes, charges $150 a year in the sales record. Ask for the covenants and for what the dues cover before you buy.

Who Alexander Lakes Suits

Families, for a start. It is one street ending in a cul-de-sac. It also suits anyone who wants a newer house on some acreage and a country setting without giving up quick access to the lake, the marinas and the new Publix.
And it suits buyers who want water outside the back door for a fraction of what Lake Oconee frontage costs.
